Establishing a few good habits in the morning can help improve your life and allow you to practice mindfulness as soon as you start your day. It helps to keep you positive, establishes a routine that you can look forward to, and it can even be good for your mental and physical health!
5 Habits for a Mindful Morning Routine
Here are 5 easy to pick up morning mindfulness habits you can start right away.
Make Yourself a Morning Tonic
Whether you like an apple cider vinegar tea to help improve digestion, or a lemon ginger tea to help with detoxing, having a morning tonic is a great ritual to have. My personal favorite is a cup of green tea, though for a treat I’ll sometimes have coffee or chocolate milk.
Experimenting with and adjusting your tonics to what you need that day can be a lot of fun! The warm liquids will stimulate your body and encourage regularity.
Avoid Using Your Phone
When we first wake up in the morning, we enjoy a clarity that we won’t see again for the rest of the day. Take this time to enjoy yourself. Enjoy the morning!
Don’t spoil the moment by immediately checking text messages, status updates, emails, and alerts. Put social media and business on hold—all of that can come later.
Get Up and Get Active
Getting up and immediately getting active helps to wake you up more fully than a cup of coffee. It can help you stay awake longer, too.
Starting your day off with a little moving around also helps you get some exercise before your brain can object. Whether you’re a marathon runner or you just do a few sets of yoga positions, this is a very important part of healthy morning rituals.
Eat a Great Breakfast
Having a full, healthy, well-rounded breakfast is shown to help improve healthy food choices throughout the rest of the day.
A good breakfast should include a source of carbohydrates, healthy fats, and protein. Including some veggies here and there during breakfasts is great, whether you prefer them to the side or in a green smoothie!
Plan Out Your Day
While you may be used to having a plan, learning to prioritize while you plan is a great habit to pick up. Choose 1 – 3 big or important things that you need to get done that day. Try to get them done at the beginning of your day so that you can fill up the rest of your day more productively.
Don’t forget to schedule in time for yourself, too!
Try planning your next day at the end of the current day so you don’t have to think about it in the morning. This way, you can make a habit out of going over your plans in the morning and mentally preparing for everything you have to do.
Create Your Perfect Mindful Morning Routine
There are tons of ways to customize your morning, this is just a really fun baseboard to start with. Play around with what works for you – aspirations, meditation, grounding – there are tons of options out there!
